Privacy notice.
This notice explains how personal information is handled when you visit this website or contact me about my writing and editorial services.
Who to contact
I am Wendi Jane Ellis, the controller responsible for enquiry information and professional correspondence. For privacy questions or requests, email wendijaneellis@gmail.com.
Your enquiry
The Contact form asks for your name, email address, service preference and project description. Manuscript length and preferred timing are optional. You can also email me directly. Please leave sensitive personal information and unpublished manuscript files out of your initial enquiry.
The form prepares a draft in your email app. Its contents are not submitted to a website form service or saved by this website. I receive your enquiry only if you send the email yourself. The copy option places the prepared text on your device’s clipboard when you choose it; you can also copy the displayed text manually.
How I use your information
I use the information you send to respond to your enquiry, discuss possible services and maintain professional communication during a project. For requested services and quotations, the legal basis is taking steps at your request before entering a contract, or performing an agreed contract. General business correspondence and website security rely on legitimate interests in managing enquiries and keeping the website available and secure.
I do not sell your personal information or use it for marketing without your explicit consent. Providing enquiry information is voluntary, but I need enough detail and a reply address to respond. I do not use your enquiry information for automated decision-making or profiling.
Hosting, email and service providers
Cloudflare Pages hosts this website. Cloudflare may process technical information, including IP addresses and request metadata, to deliver and protect it. Emails you send are handled through Google’s Gmail service and your own email provider. Access to my enquiry correspondence is restricted to me.
These providers may process information outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Details of their processing and international-transfer safeguards are available in Cloudflare’s privacy policy, Cloudflare’s data-protection information and Google’s privacy policy. Your own email provider’s terms also apply when you prepare or send a message.
Retention
I keep enquiry correspondence only as long as needed for the enquiry or project, taking account of ongoing discussions, project delivery and any applicable legal record-keeping obligations. Information is not kept indefinitely simply because you contacted me. Providers manage their own technical logs and backups under their policies.
Your rights
Where the GDPR applies, and subject to its conditions, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal information, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. If processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Email me at the address above to make a request.
You can also complain to the relevant data-protection authority, including in the country where you live or work. The European Commission explains individual data-protection rights.
Cookies and analytics
Optional Cloudflare Web Analytics helps me understand visits, popular pages, referring websites and page performance. The analytics code loads only after you choose Accept analytics. The basis for this optional analytics processing is your consent. Choosing Reject analytics, or closing the panel without accepting, leaves optional analytics off and does not affect access to the website.
Cloudflare’s analytics script does not use cookies, browser storage or fingerprinting to identify visitors. It processes page and referrer information and browser performance measurements. Cloudflare receives the connection’s IP address when receiving an analytics request; according to its documentation, it discards that address at its nearest data centre rather than storing it in its analytics databases or logs. This is separate from technical hosting and security information described above. See Cloudflare’s analytics data and privacy information.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through Analytics preferences in the footer. Rejection stops further analytics reporting; withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before it. When your browser permits it, this website saves only your choice, the notice version and its decision and expiry dates in local browser storage for 180 days, then asks again. This storage is used to remember and honour your preference and contains no enquiry text.
Cloudflare currently makes analytics reports available for the previous six months and manages its underlying analytics retention and aggregation. Details are in its Web Analytics FAQs. Cloudflare may process this information internationally, as described in the provider section above.
The website contains no advertising or embedded third-party media. Its enquiry form does not save your message in browser storage. Hosting security services and your email application may process technical information separately. This notice will be updated if the services used change.
